the album i should have gotten into in 2008 but still haven't:

brian eno & david byrne - everything that happens will happen today (i fucking love my life in the bush of ghost, most eno records, and all talking heads records. someone buy me this for christmas.)

the albums i totally got into in 2008 that were actually released in said year:

marnie stern - this is it and i am it and you are it and so is that and he is it and she is it and it is it and that is that (thanks for including the digital download marnie, i love you and want to have your babies. i wish i got to see you on this tour with zach hill and the kissing booth, but at least i got to see you play a few years ago in the shithole that is ronny's with an ipod mini carabinered to your belt. not that i was fawning or anything.)

maps & atlases - you and me and the mountain (probably my most often played, though i didn't pick up the marnie record until a month or so ago. as said before, these dudes are onto something.)

m83 - saturdays=youth (i got into this one way more than i expected to upon first listen. lush and beautiful.)

boris - smile (best show of the year? well, i DID see radiohead from about 8 rows of people back, so...)

man man - rabbit habits (still haven't purchased this one, though at least i ripped it from my co-workers purchased copy. i'll get the vinyl, shut up fuckers.)

portishead - third (admittedly i didn't much dig into her stuff until recently, but because of third's release i took it upon myself to snag her first two records, and i'm glad i did. beautiful, dark stuff.)

mars volta - bedlam in goliath (i actually found this one to be the most listenable thing they've put out since deloused. i just really, really miss at the drive-in.)

girl talk - feed the animals (this gets a nod because 2008 was the year i got into dj'ing and this dude knows how to put together a fucking party mix. whatever.)

make believe - going to the bone church (i wasn't going to include this one because i feel it hardly stacks up to their first two records, but in the end, it's better than a lot of other bullshit i've heard. vampire weekend? fuck those guys. fleet foxes? barf.)

think i've missed something? probably. suckkkkk itttttt.

they have managed to infiltrate infectious rhythms and crash-choke love circle melodies into the t/-\p rock i hold so near'n'dear. you knowhella, andbattles, andmarniestern, andminusthebear. those other bands that totally shred yet remain mostly under the radar, presupposing weak radar. fuck the dime, these dudes turn on a silva' dolla' - holla'. i have known them for a long time, and i'm certain that their new ep, you and me and the mountain, is but a speck of light illuminating a future oh-so bright. developing-singsing.
